Plan of Salvation

(How to obtain eternal life with God)

This page provides a path to follow for anyone who earnestly seeks to know and to receive the Salvation offered through the atoning death of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Please read on. Your response to His death, resurrection and salvation is the most important decision that you will personally ever make in your life.

People may say confidently: that they are single or married, have a family, have a job, go to school, are retired, etc. However, many are unsure about their response to the questions below:

1) What answer do you give for knowing that you will be able to enter into Heaven after you die?

2) How do you know you are a Christian?

People often answer these questions with responses like:

- I go to Church regularly

- My parents are good Church-goers and they pray for me

- I try to live a good life and treat others well

- My goal is to obey the Ten Commandments as best as I can

- I was baptized as a child and regularly attend Sunday  School

- I have completed enough indulgences to overcome all sins in my life

- I have completed reading the Bible and believe most of what I have read

- I expect that God will overlook my sins because He is a loving, merciful God

- Nobody can be absolutely sure that he/she will get into Heaven

- It is best to wait till you are about to die in order to make things right with God

- I am not sure there is a Heaven or Hell

- Everybody is going to Heaven

- God will not let people be eternally tormented in Hell

If you find one of these answers to be a close-fit to your thinking, know that none of these responses makes you a Christian and surely will not get you into Heaven. Most of them represent something that people do or try to do. One cannot earn  Salvation or make your own way into Heaven.

The Bible says: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

God saves us by His divine power (Grace) when we believe (place our trust) in Him. People cannot take credit for this. God's grace, faith and salvation are a free gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done. None of us can boast about being worthy or meriting salvation. It is written: "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"      (Romans 3:23-24)

When a person tries to earn their salvation or way into heaven, it is a never-ending cycle of fear, doubt, and temporary hope. Such a person may wonder how many good deeds are needed to justify his or her salvation or entrance into heaven.

Unless man's sinful nature is atoned for and cleansed, he cannot enter heaven and stand before a Holy God. Jesus Christ alone took our sins upon Himself on the cross. He paid the penalty or punishment for our sins. Jesus has become our salvation and way into heaven. He alone died on the cross, was raised from the dead and is seated at the right hand of God the Father,

Without the Lord Jesus, everyone is naked and wretched in their present condition and headed toward eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire. If you sincerely want to turn your life over to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, then humble yourself before God and speak this prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that I am a sinner and unable to save myself. I believe that You love me and that You sent Your Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. And, that You raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at Your right side in heaven. I confess Jesus as my Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead. I thank you for making me a new creature in Christ Jesus.

And Lord, I repent of my sins and ask You to forgive me of all my sins. Thank you for Your forgiveness and cleansing of my soul. I also ask that You help me to read and understand the Bible. To attend a Church that loves You and upholds the Bible as the inerrant inspired Word of God. And, I purpose to yield to thy Holy Spirit to lead me into all Truth and Righteousness.   In Jesus  name. I pray. Amen!

Having sincerely prayed this prayer, you now are part of God's Kingdom as a Christian (follower of Jesus) on this earth and in heaven. Sometimes you may physically or emotionally feel God's presence, other times you may not.

Remember, God's Word is always true whether or not you feel something. Also, know that the Bible says: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."    (I John 5:13)

This means that when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you have assurance of eternal life in Him. Ask your Pastor to baptize you in water as a sign of your death in Christ Jesus. Then ask your Pastor to pray over you the Holy Spirit according to the Book of Acts (Chapters 9:17-18, 10:44-48 and 11:15:18).

As you begin your walk with the Lord, you should notice some changes occurring in your life. For example, your desire to stay in sinful relationships or habits should stop or greatly decline in controlling you. Instead you should be wanting to read the Bible, associate with other believers, attend Church, pray to God, tell others about your experience with Jesus, etc.

You might even experience greater temptations or increased pressure to give in to sinful behavior. Your adversary, the devil wants you to think that nothing has changed and that you still sin and desire to do more of it. Know that Jesus has overcome and broken the power of sin in your life. You are to submit to God, resist the devil and he shall flee. Know that temptation is not sin but giving into temptation is sin. Trust that Jesus will help you to obey Him and to live a righteous lifestyle.

There are many helpful resources available for new believers. One of them is the Power For Living book that you can get free from the Arthur D. DeMoss Foundation by calling 800-358-1000 or by writing them at: Power For Living, PO Box 3303, West Palm Beach, FL 33402.

Start reading in the Book of Romans in the New Testament of your Bible. Always ask the Holy Spirit to teach you His Word so that your heart and mind is quickened to accept and understand what He is saying to you. Know that your body is now the temple of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit for His grace and power to help you to take life one day at a time. Jesus will change your character into His Character as you yield your life, your possessions, your family, your job, everything, to His Lordship. His burden is light and His yoke is easy. Trust Jesus!
